About the Bento Box:

The Bento Box (or O-bento) is basically what the Japanese call a packed lunch. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat plus one or more pickled or cooked vegetables.  Bento Boxes come with internal dividers for each different type of food and the boxes are sometimes stacked up in layers. Bento lunches come in everything from disposable boxes to beautiful lacquerware – the whole idea is to make the box as pretty as possible. They can be very elaborate – often arranged to look like popular Japanese cartoon characters (anime), animals, buildings, flowers and plants. There are similar forms of boxed lunches in the Philippines (Baon), Korea (Dosirak), Taiwan (Biandang), and India (Tiffin) too.

And in celebration of the Bento, check out these great images  we found online.

What do Sex and the City’s Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte love almost as much as their sky-high Manolo Blahniks? …Cocktails! Sex in the City introduced a whole new generation to cocktail culture and put the Cosmopolitan firmly on the map of the noughties girl about town.

To  celebrate the  release of  Sex And The City 2, we are having our own Sex And The City nights  on Friday, May 28th, 2010 and Saturday May 29th, 2010 at the Oki-Bar -upstairs at Oki-Nami.

And in honour of our favourite NY girls, our mixologist at Oki- Bar has devised four unique cocktails – each reflecting their individual personalities. Come and sample  Carrie’s Sex in the Bar, a Sassy Samantha, a Sweet Charlotte or Miranda’s Manhattan…Which one are you most like? Or just try them all!

There will also be complimentary nibbles on the night.

As parents ourselves we know how difficult eating out with children in restaurants can be. You end up ditching good, healthy food in favour of yet another plate of chicken nuggets and chips.

At Oki-Nami we want to get children involved in eating well at an early age. So we have launched our  new Oki-Kids menu that features three mouth-watering choices for children – all nutritious, handmade, free range and fresh. The chopsticks  even come wrapped in beautiful origami  paper – to keep little fingers busy at the table.

And not content with feeding them, we want to get the kids in the kitchen too. Which is why this Easter we will be running our first Kids Sushi and Origami class.

The class will give children the chance to try their hand at making their own sushi – which they can then eat or take home with them. We will also show them how to make Origami.

  • Kids Sushi and Origami Class: Wednesday, 7th April.
  • Age 8 – 12, price £6.
  • You can book the classes in  advance from Oki-Nami.
